Yiddish Literature both in Europe and the U.S.
Time & Location
There was a time, not too long ago ... when more Jews spoke Yiddish than all other languages combined ... when Yiddish, not Hebrew, was the language most often heard in Israel ... when Jewish scholars and artists wrote books, essays, stories, novels, plays, and poetry in Yiddish.
This “People of the Books” class will examine that time, and listen to the voices of some of those artists. (And don’t be surprised if we slip into “mamaloshen” now and then!)
